YIKES! IT'S A BIKE?

Check out this website.

Cervelo is trying to show us how low they can go.

Well this fellow from New Zealand is showing us how small and compact we can go and you don't even have to pedal.

I don't think it will replace my Cannondale Supersix, but if your commute to work is less than 10 km go for it

Thanks to my friend Mike for passing this along.

FOLLOW YOUR PASSION

Well I can finally reveal the real reason I was in Saratoga Springs N.Y. in January. I was taking the Certification course at the Serotta International Cycling Institute to become a Certified Professional Bike Fitting Specialist, and now that I have passed the exam (with flying colours I might add , 100%.) and sent all the fit summaries down to New York for scrutiny, I can finally say that I am now a Certified SICI Bike Fitting Professional, and that's exactly what it says on my certificate. I have been interested in bike fitting for years and have read just about every article I could in an attempt to accommodate the anatomical challenges of my own body.

I would like to thank all the people who donated their bodies and bikes, while I completed the practical section of my certification.

Hey, By the way. Why couldn't I ever get the type of marks in University that I did on this course.

Hence the title of this post. If you follow your passion ANYTHING IS ACHIEVABLE.

Check out my website http://www.fitt1st.com/

If I can help you in any way give me a call.

P.S.

In case you were wondering about the pictures from the Serotta factory tour, I will be adding them in the next few days.

Nutrition and Health

Chia... PET OR THE LATEST SUPERFOOD

Cha..Cha.. Cha Chia. Anyone remember the TV commercials for Chia pets where you order this kit that comes with a clay head which you wet and spread seeds over the surface of and you can watch them grow hair.

Well it turns out that Chia seed, scientific name salvia hispanica L. could be the newest Superfood.

I've been mixing a tablespoon of the wonder seeds in my cereal every morning for the last 6 months and I'm a believer.

I have a pretty fast metabolism and seem to burn through food calories quickly. This is great for controlling weight but can be a nightmare when you are an endurance cyclist like myself.

Since using Chia my breakfast has stayed with me for much longer, and I no longer require snacks before lunch, my digestive system works better, I have more energy during the day, I sleep better at night. When I go riding gastric emptying is delayed and I can ride longer and faster on the same amount of food.

But enough about me, Go to this website http://www.superseeds.ca/ read up on it and try it for yourself. You can buy it at any health food store and most grocery stores that have health sections. Be careful where you buy Chia seed. I have seen prices ranging anywhere from $11.99-$19.99 for a pound of seed.

I buy mine at Beaches Natural Foods 1947 Queen St East, Toronto 416-698-8805 and I paid $9.99 on special

But what ever you do, don't resort to ordering a Chia pet off the TV. I'm sure the chia seed will do much more for you if you eat it.

Get back to me with your feedback on what chia does for you. I'm very interested in your thoughts.

2010 IS HERE

Happy New Year to everyone, 2010 promises to be an exciting year, we see the economy starting to come out of recession, lots of exciting transfers within the Pro peleton including our very own Michael Barry moving to Team Sky from Columbia-HTC. I'm sure his Dad is happy to see the move since he is British and Team Sky is a British based team.

Hopefully this will be the year that Michael finally gets to ride Le Tour, god knows he certainly deserves it. The pro race season officially gets under way in a couple of weeks at the Tour Down Under in Australia, and I don't know about you but I'm pumped about it.

Stay tuned for lots of action this year, and NOW is the time to start getting ready for the outdoor season by putting some serious time in to your winter strength training

Tip of the Day

Changing tires and tubes without tire levers

How many tubes have you ruined using tire levers to remove and reinstall tires?.

Personally I have ruined lots over the years, not knowing I've even done it until I inflated the tires, went to go riding the next day and sure enough the tire is flat.

The reason for this is usually that when putting the final 12 inches of the tire back on the rim it is very difficult and you have to use the tire levers to get the last section of tire on. When you do this it is very easy to pinch the tube between the tire lever and the rim causing a pinch flat.

Since I stopped using tire levers I have not ruined a single tube and if you use latex tubes like I do it gets expensive replacing tubes at $12.00 a pop.

When you stop using tire levers you will notice very quickly that it requires a lot more strength, especially in the hands. After you are finished your hands will probably hurt and you may even have blisters.

So you are probably saying to yourself by now, Where the heck is he going with this?.

Here's the TIP.... USE RUBBER GLOVES.

The ones that work the best are the garden gloves that look like they have been dipped in rubber. they cost $4.99 at any hardware store. When you start using the gloves you will not believe how much easier it is. The gloves give you a lot of grip to be able to roll the tire on to the rim much easier, with a lot less strength and effort required.

Give it a try and you can kiss goodbye to those dreaded tire levers.

No more scratching rims, no more chasing tire levers across the room when they let go unexpectedly.
