Chia... PET OR THE LATEST SUPERFOOD

Cha..Cha.. Cha Chia. Anyone remember the TV commercials for Chia pets where you order this kit that comes with a clay head which you wet and spread seeds over the surface of and you can watch them grow hair.

Well it turns out that Chia seed, scientific name salvia hispanica L. could be the newest Superfood.

I've been mixing a tablespoon of the wonder seeds in my cereal every morning for the last 6 months and I'm a believer.

I have a pretty fast metabolism and seem to burn through food calories quickly. This is great for controlling weight but can be a nightmare when you are an endurance cyclist like myself.

Since using Chia my breakfast has stayed with me for much longer, and I no longer require snacks before lunch, my digestive system works better, I have more energy during the day, I sleep better at night. When I go riding gastric emptying is delayed and I can ride longer and faster on the same amount of food.

But enough about me, Go to this website http://www.superseeds.ca/ read up on it and try it for yourself. You can buy it at any health food store and most grocery stores that have health sections. Be careful where you buy Chia seed. I have seen prices ranging anywhere from $11.99-$19.99 for a pound of seed.

I buy mine at Beaches Natural Foods 1947 Queen St East, Toronto 416-698-8805 and I paid $9.99 on special

But what ever you do, don't resort to ordering a Chia pet off the TV. I'm sure the chia seed will do much more for you if you eat it.

Get back to me with your feedback on what chia does for you. I'm very interested in your thoughts.

2010 IS HERE

Happy New Year to everyone, 2010 promises to be an exciting year, we see the economy starting to come out of recession, lots of exciting transfers within the Pro peleton including our very own Michael Barry moving to Team Sky from Columbia-HTC. I'm sure his Dad is happy to see the move since he is British and Team Sky is a British based team.

Hopefully this will be the year that Michael finally gets to ride Le Tour, god knows he certainly deserves it. The pro race season officially gets under way in a couple of weeks at the Tour Down Under in Australia, and I don't know about you but I'm pumped about it.

Stay tuned for lots of action this year, and NOW is the time to start getting ready for the outdoor season by putting some serious time in to your winter strength training
